Sylvester Stallone’s late son, Sage Stallone died in his Hollywood home mysteriously on July 13, 2012 just days before he had planned to marry his longtime girlfriend, and leaving the world to assume Sage’s was yet another Hollywood drug overdose. A grieving Sylvester Stallone, along with countless friends and family insist that the reclusive son of the Hollywood legend was not an illicit drug user, and in fact, did not even drink alcohol.

The fledgling film producer who intended to follow in his famous father’s footsteps was said to be a heavy smoker, and a recent coroner’s report ruled that Sage Stallone’s untimely death at the age of just 36 was the result of a heart attack that the young filmmaker suffered while home alone in Studio City, California, a Los Angeles suburb.

According to reporting by the Los Angeles Times, “Sage Stallone, the son of Sylvester Stallone, died of coronary artery disease, and coroner’s officials said his smoking might have played a role. Coroner Chief Craig Harvey said Sage Stallone had a history of being a heavy smoker, but his family said the amount had diminished lately. He was most recently smoking an electric cigarette. Among the chief causes of coronary artery disease is smoking because it can cause elevated blood pressure, raising the risk of clots.”

We all remember when a fourteen year old Sage Stallone acted alongside his father, Sylvester Stallone, in the fifth installment of the Rocky film saga, playing Rocky Balboa, Jr. Rocky V shows Rocky suffering from brain damage after fighting Dolph Lundgren’s Russian character in Rocky IV, losing  his fortune to unscrupulous accountants and being forced to move his wife and son back to his old Philadelphia neighborhood. We watched sweet onscreen moments between Sylvester Stallone and a young Sage Stallone as the father and son duo played fictional versions of themselves, though the father-son moments looked poignantly real.

Sage Stallone is survived by his parents, Sasha Czack and Sylvester Stallone and siblings: Seargeoh Stallone, and Sistine, Sophia, and Scarlet Stallone.
