Mobile App for a Direct Line to the White House – Necessary or Superfluous?
June 11, 2011 No CommentsThese days, with President Obama’s approval raiting as low as it is, and with healthcare still in turmoil, the housing market still in freefall and unemployment remaining at over 9%, how much government news can we stand in our lives?
According the the White House, “over 400,000 people have already downloaded the app” that brings White News to your iphone or android in real time. But is this phone app necessary and something that you would want, or do you prefer to not have daily mobile reminders of the great calamity that seems to be American government lately?
Being a politico, myself, I need to stay informed and I visit Google News, Huffington Post, CNN.com and Politico.com fairly regularly, but about once every couple of days is about all I can stomach lately. I certainly wouldn’t want my phone blowing up every hour with the latest news from the White House that only serves to make me feel helpless and frustrated.
Maybe I am missing something here. Maybe President Obama’s adminstration is on to something with their mobile app; apparently 400,000 people seem to think so, and I suppose it makes for great cocktail party conversation when you are stuck for a topic to chat over. Just wait for a “buzzzzz” on your phone, glance at President Obama’s latest public relations inspired news tidbit, and raise the topic for discussion. Not kidding, it actually does seem handy for that purpose. And like Barack Obama, no president can keep all of these balls in the air at once and do a great job. To be fair, it’s a lot more like juggling sharp knives than balls to try to untangle the mess the President Obama’s administration inherited. Maybe Obama could explain in one of these White House mobile app alerts why he thought he would even want this no-win gig in the first place. Now that’s a news alert I would read!
What do you think about this mobile app that gives us all direct access to the latest President Obama news from his administration to your phone?
