Born again "virgin?"

In a shocking and brilliant move, an in line with Pamela Anderson’s ironic and campy sense of humor, the notorious blonde bombshell has portrayed, who else? The Virgin Mary in A Russell Peters Christmas for Canada’s CTV network, airing tonight.

In A Russell Peters Christmas , Pamela Anderson and Jon Lovitz help to create a traditional Christmas nativity scene, taking their respective roles quite seriously, with the punchline being obvious. A Russell Peters Christas is set to air on Canada’s CTV tonight, and on Comedy Central. According to Russell Peters’ official website, “A Russell Peters Christmas Special is “inspired by the variety shows of the 70′s, A RUSSELL PETERS CHRISTMAS is corny, sweet, silly, sentimental and most of all FUNNY!”

No doubt some devout Christians will find Pamela Anderson feining “virgin” status to be offensive, others will see the obvious humor and irony and get a laugh out of the scene (including Anerson, herself), while others will likely take the holiday nativity scene at face value and just enjoy it as part of the whole Christmas hullabaloo.

A Russell Peters Christmas Special is billed as having appearances by special guests, “PAMELA ANDERSON, MICHAEL BUBLE, JON LOVITZ, SCOTT THOMPSON, FAIZON LOVE, GOAPELE, TED LANGE and RUSSELL’S MOM and his beautiful daughter, CRYSTIANNA.”

This Canadian Christmas romp around the manger is described by the Vancouver Sun newspaper: “Pamela Anderson appears as the Virgin Mary scene — talk about an attention grabber — in the aforementioned Nativity scene opposite Peters’ crabby, too-hip-for-the-room Joseph, and Michael Buble drops by later in the show, SCTV-style, to croon his way through a couple of holiday classics.”

If you suspect that Russell Peters cast Pam Anderson as Jesus Christ’s virgin mother Mary for publicity, you are right, and the Canadian comic, Peters, makes no bones about it. Pamela Anderson loves playing with the public’s image of her, and what I love about Pam is that she is always game to polk fun at her well crafted public caricature image. More power to you, Pam!
